Soloist: Jonathan Bondoc

Jonathan Bondoc has lived in Hamilton Ontario his whole life. He started his piano lessons at an early age of five, but began to take the classical musical repertory seriously later in his teenage years. His teachers included Marta Pochieca and Virginia Blaha prior to his university studies. After achieving a scholarship for the second highest examination mark in the Hamilton/Halton Region for his Grade 10 piano exam, he knew he wanted to study piano performance at a University level. He now holds an Associate Level Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Jonathan has won numerous awards and scholarships from the Hamilton Kiwanis, Burlington Rotary Brantford Kiwanis and Barrie Kiwanis music festivals. Winning the W. Ross McDonald Piano Trophy as well as the Richard Blaha Memorial Silver Tray for best overall performance highlights his biggest success at the Brantford Kiwanis music festival in 2003. He had been chosen to represent these festivals three times in the yearly-held Provincial Music Festival.

Since 2004, Jonathan has been attending Wilfrid Laurier University studying piano performance in the studio of Leslie De’Ath. His last 3 years at Laurier has been very exciting with many solo piano, and chamber music performances. He was also one of four students invited to play in a masterclass for Angela Hewitt. Jonathan is currently finishing his 4th year, and is working towards a Graduation Recital in April as well as preparing for Graduate School Auditions.
